The Underrated Art Of One-Handed Controls
Most of my mobile gaming happens in awkward spots. Standing on a train, waiting in a queue, holding a coffee in the other hand. The games that survive on my phone are the ones I can play with a single thumb.
This is why simple control schemes matter more than flashy graphics. Tap to interact, swipe to move, hold to act. When a game gets this right, the interface disappears and you're just in the world.
Contrast that with racing or strategy games that demand two thumbs and full concentration. Those are great for the couch, but they lose to the pick-up-and-drop games in daily play time.
If you're a developer reading this: test your game while walking. If it's playable one-handed, it earns a place in more lives than a prettier game ever will.
