Turn-Based Or Real-Time: What Works On A Phone
Combat on mobile lives or dies by how it handles your fingers covering the screen. Turn-based systems have a natural advantage here: you get time to think, and your thumb isn't blocking the action you're trying to read.
Real-time can absolutely work, as Ironline Command shows with its time-slow feature. Letting you pause to issue orders bridges the gap between console-style depth and touchscreen limits.
The trap is porting a design straight from PC without adapting. Tiny buttons and hidden information wreck an otherwise good game the moment your hand gets in the way.
When I test combat, I play in bright sunlight and on a cramped phone. If the fight still reads clearly under those conditions, the design is doing its job.
